Betting Odds
Arizona +131
Padres -141
Over/ Under: 7 U -125
The Arizona Diamondbacks have been a very inconsistent team so far and they are starting to show that you need more than just hitting to win in this league. they have alternated wins and losses in their last 10 games and if you follow that formula they they are in line for a win in this one. The DBacks are currently in 3rd place in the NL West. The Padres have also been an inconsistent team as neither their hitting or pitching has been all that good of late. They are currently in 4th place in the NL West, 6.5 games behind division leading Los Angeles.
The Diamondbacks rank 6th in scoring (4.50 rpg), 7th in hitting (.262) and 15th in homers (65), while on the mound they are 26th in ERA (4.25) and 22nd in WHIP (1.33). San Diego ranks 15th in scoring (4.16 rpg), 23rd in hitting (.243) and 21st in homers (61), while on the mound they are 23rd in ERA (4.16) and 25th in WHIP (1.35).
Getting the ball for Arizona tonight will be Robbie Ray, who is 2-2 with a 1.78 ERA in 5 starts this year, while on the road he has gone 2-1 with a 1.37 ERA in 3 starts. Robbie is 0-1 with a 4.76 ERA in 1 career start vs the Mariners.
Taking the hill for the Padres tonight will be Tyson Ross, who is 4-7 with a 3.61 ERA in 14 starts this year, while at home he has gone 2-4 with a 4.76 ERA. Ross is 3-3 with a 2.73 ERA in 11 appearances (10 starts) vs the DBacks in his career.
Pick: I will go with the Under in this game. Padre home game have been higher scoring this year, but I don't see this one panning out that way. Robbie Ray has been excellent this year so far as he has a 1.37 ERA on the road and the Padres don't hit lefties all that well, especially at home. Tyson Ross has not pitched well at home, but normally he does and I see him having a good showing tonight.

In Defense of Pete Rose
A recent ESPN Outside the Lines piece revealed Pete Rose did more than just bet on baseball--he bet on the Cincinnati Reds aka the Big Red Machine during hist stint as player/manager. Since Rose never bet against his baseball team, pro bettors Teddy Covers and Steve Fezzik come to his defense, pointing out he never fixed games like, say, the Chicago Black Sox did. Comparing to other athletes who bet on sports, his lifetime ban from baseball and the Hall of Fame seems pretty harsh compared to the one-year ban of football player Alex Karas. In short, the sports world is being way too harsh on one of the great players of the game.
