The reeling West Virginia Mountaineers will look to halt their extended skid tomorrow when it faces the Cyclones of Iowa State in Ames. Start time in this Big 12 rivalry tilt is set for 3:30pm ET at Jack Trice Stadium; it will be broadcast live on ABC. West Virginia’s once promising season has turned into a disaster as five straight losses have evened its record at 5-5 and put its bowl chances in jeopardy.

Despite their five game slide, the Mountaineers have been competitive on occasion, forcing double overtime against TCU and taking a favored Oklahoma squad to the wire last weekend in Morgantown.

They will need to shake off Saturday’s 50-49 loss to the Sooners and somehow regain the fire that earned them a 48-45 win at Texas should they hope to turn back the Cyclones tomorrow afternoon. The odds makers are expecting West Virginia to do both of those things, though.

Iowa State does have three conference losses at home this season (Texas Tech, Kansas State, Oklahoma), and it has a redshirt freshman quarterback making the first start of his career. Florida native Sam Richardson did turn in a brilliant relief performance last weekend against Kansas, completing 23-of-27 passes for 250 yards and four touchdowns, but he is still an unproven commodity.

The Cyclones are also 1-4 both straight up and against the spread in their last five games as a home underdog with a spread between 0 and 3.5 points. Conversely, the Mountaineers are 4-1 both straight and opposite the number in their last five games as a road favorite in the month of November.
