An in-state battle takes place in college football action on Friday night when the Utah Utes host the Utah State Aggies. The game is scheduled for a 9:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN2. Currently the betting odds for the game have the Utes favored by two scores to pick up the victory.
Utah picked up a big win over Michigan to open the college football season, spoiling the return of Jim Harbaugh to his alma mater. For the second straight week the Utes will play a big game early in the season, this time taking on their arch-rivals.
The Aggies are going to be playing without suspended wide receiver Hunter Sharp as well as a couple of other players. They violated team rules during the off-season and were docked the opening two games of the year. While that’s a big loss for the Aggies, they were able to play without them in the opener.
Utah State led in the second half the last time these teams played in 2013, Utah won that game 30-26. The victory gave the Utes a 12th win out of 13 games in the series. Utah State hasn’t won in Salt Lake City since 1997, either.
Chuckie Keeton is still in school and he’ll need a big game for the Aggies to hang around in this one. He did not seem interested last week and the Aggies needed a punt return for a touchdown late to beat Southern Utah.
The Utes have talent all over the field and are the clear better team here. Rivalry games, especially early, can be strange though. Utah State looks to keep this one close.
