The California Golden Bears are hosting the Oregon Ducks in college football action on Friday night. The game is scheduled for a 10:30 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN. The total on this game is crazy high, but that’s because neither one of these teams can play any defense. Mix in some solid offensive play and you have a total soaring toward 90. The Golden Bears average better than 42 points per game and even though Oregon has been struggling, the Ducks still score almost 37 points per game themselves, so the fireworks could be coming in this one.

Oregon’s defense has been a big part of the problem. The Ducks are surrendering almost 42 points per game this season, which ranks fourth-worst in the country. California is right behind them, ranking sixth-worst in the country, in allowing 40 points per game to opponents.

This is either going to be the best offensive showcase of the week or a really ugly game. Maybe it’s both. Oregon has won each of the last seven games in this series by an average of 26 points in those victories. This season, though, the Ducks have lost four straight and have surrendered almost 50 points per game, including 70 last game out to Washington.

The Ducks have a freshman at quarterback with Justin Herbert, Cal has the leading passer in the country with Davis Webb. It sounds insane to look toward the over here, but with both defenses unable to stop anybody, this has the feeling of a game played in the 40s. Cal gets the edge here at home.
