Frac Daddy 2013 Kentucky Derby Long Shot

Hi-res-167799814_crop_exact

The Kentucky Derby start time and official post time is 6:24 pm ET this Saturday from Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. This is the 139th running of the Kentucky Derby andas always there are several Long Shots in the event, including Frac Daddy, who has been installed as 50/1 Odds to win the Derby.

Frac Daddy (50-1): Record: 1-3-0 in 6 Races. Trainer: Kenny McPeek. Jockey: Victor Lebron. Sire: Scat Daddy. Dam: Skippers Mate

Back in November of last year, Frac Daddy made a splash by absolutely destroying the competition at Churchill Downs in his second race. However, by the time the Holy Bull atGulfstream Park rolled around, things started to sour. The thoroughbred suffered a gash in his leg and finished sixth, followed by the development of throat ulcers that derailed his training schedule for quite some time. Frac Daddy struggled in his return at the Florida Derby, but rebounded for a second-place finish behind Overanalyze in the Arkansas Derby.

Frac Daddy missed by only a neck when he finished second last year at Churchill in the Grade 2 Kentucky Jockey Club, but he was no factor in the subsequent Grade 3 Holy Bull or the Grade 1 Florida Derby. He ran an improved race last time, when he rallied from sixth to finish second behind
Overanalyze in the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby. He owns only one career win, but those second-place finishes show that he has the ability to contend
in good races under the right circumstances. His tactical speed will make a good trip likely, but he still must improve to capitalize on it.

He only earned an 81 Beyer Speed Figure for his second in the Arkansas Derby, and he never appeared likely to catch Overanalyze, the 4 1/4-length winner. While he did earn a good 91 Beyer in his maiden special win going 1 1/16 miles, that 81 Beyer from Oaklawn is his best number in nearly six months, and he must improve significantly on it to make any kind of serious impact against the fastest, strongest field he has ever faced
when he runs in the Kentucky Derby.

He’s peaking at the right time and has momentum heading back to the old stomping grounds in Louisville, Kentucky. Frac Daddy is a great value for a long shot and should be right in the thick of things when the horses cross the finish line.
