Former United States coach Pia Sundhage takes over her native country in this World Cup. She won an Olympic Gold Medal leading the Americans to victory in London, but she's been critical of the Americans leading into this match tonight. While that might be an uplifting tactic for her team, it's probably not wise to go after the favorites before having to play them.
The United States was sloppy at times in their opening match against Australia, but cruised in the second half. Megan Rapinoe scored twice, Hope Solo was saving shots on target and the United States came away with three points.
Sweden stubbed their toes, drawing with Nigeria 3-3 in the opening match. That was huge for the Nigerians, but bad for Sweden, especially if the Nigerians are able to beat Australia today. Sweden, ranked fifth in the world FIFA rankings, could be in a very bad position after tonight's match with the Americans.
The USA players should react positively form Sundhage's comments and use it as motivation. This should be a well contested match on both ends of the pitch, but the Americans just have too much talent. Remember, Sweden beat the United States 2-1 in regulation time during group play in the last World Cup.
