Eastern Michigan is not known for its football prowess, but Head Coach Ron English did manage to coax a respectable finish out of the team in 2011. The Eagles posted a 6-6 overall record and they went 4-4 in conference play, earning wins over Akron, Central Michigan, Western Michigan, and Buffalo. However, last season looked all too familiar to fans of the program as Eastern Michigan closed out the year with a 2-10 record. With only 13 starters back and a brutal schedule on tap, the Eagles are not expected to perform much better this season. The latest 2013 College Football Predictions from offshore bookmaker 5Dimes have Eastern Michigan's season win total set at 2.5 games and the Under is favored at -175 odds. The Eagles are also a last place pick to win the MAC West at +3000 odds and they are an 11th pick to win the conference at +8000 odds ($100 wins $8000).
Eastern Michigan has some good talent back on offense, including junior quarterback Tyler Benz, but its schedule may keep it from realizing any progress. The Eagles face tough divisional tests in Ball State, Northern Illinois, and Toledo and, much to their chagrin, they also catch Ohio and Bowling Green out of the East.
Finding three wins on the schedule is difficult but Howard, Western Michigan, and Central Michigan seem like the best candidates.
