The Miami Heat will take aim at their 25th consecutive win tonight when they battle the Detroit Pistons at the AmericanAirlines Arena in South Florida. Start time in this evening’s tussle between the Heat and Pistons is set for 7:30pm ET; it will be broadcast live on NBATV. Miami concluded a five game road swing on Wednesday night with a win over the lowly Cavaliers, but its 24 game winning streak nearly came to an end.
The Heat trailed 34-55 at the break, but they rallied in the third and fourth quarters to secure a 98-95 victory. LeBron James spurred the comeback victory as he finished the night with a 25 point, 12 rebound, 10 assist triple-double.
While the Heat’s streak has all but assured them of the Eastern Conference’s top seed and put them in line for a run at the Lakers record (33 game winning streak), it has not been, as Wednesday night’s game would indicate, without peril.
Miami, which is 30-3 at home this season, is hoping to avoid a third straight nail-biter (won 105-103 at Boston on Monday) with the Pistons in town tonight, and, while Detroit would hardly seem like a threat, it is just the kind of team that has given the Heat the most trouble of late. Charlotte and Orlando, in addition to Cleveland, challenged Miami's winning streak and Sacramento forced an overtime period against LeBron and company at the AmericanAirlines Arena in late February.
The Pistons, who topped Miami 109-99 on December 28th, have been horrid, though, losing nine in a row and 12 of their last 13 games to fall to 23-46 overall. The Heat are probably not looking past anyone either, not after what happened earlier in the week.
