The Brooklyn Nets wrap up their regular season this evening by welcoming the Detroit Pistons to the Barclays Center. Tonight’s meeting between the Nets and Pistons has a scheduled start time of 8:00pm ET; the game can be seen live on Fox Sports Detroit and the YES Network. The latest NBA Odds are favoring the hosting Nets at -5 against the spread and -210 on the moneyline. The total in this evening’s contest is set at 196.5 points.
The 29-52 Pistons have absolutely nothing to play for at this point in the season, but that has not stopped them from competing well down the stretch. Detroit has won five of its last seven games and it extended its current winning streak to four games on Monday night with a 109-101 home victory against the Sixers.
The Pistons run might actually put a scare in the Nets if they too actually had something to play for tonight. Brooklyn, at 48-33, currently owns the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference and no matter the result of this evening’s game that will not change.
As such, the Nets will, like most teams who already know their postseason situation, give their front-line players a good bit of rest in tonight’s regular season finale. That, coupled with the results of the three meetings between the Nets and the Pistons this season, makes the +/- 5 line an interesting one.
Brooklyn topped Detroit three times this season, but its first two wins over the Pistons were by a combined five points, suggesting these two squads are not that far apart when both are healthy and giving a max effort.
Given the Pistons recent play, it is hardly a stretch to say they will be looking for a win tonight even if its does nothing for them in a tangible sense.
