The Mavericks, who turned the ball over 21 times, lacked their usual offensive punch as Dirk Nowitzki sat out to get some extra rest. Only three Dallas players scored in double figures and shooting guard Monta Ellis was the only Mav to crest the 20 point mark.
Nowitzki is scheduled to return to the lineup and Dallas will almost certainly need a solid effort from the veteran big man if it is to garner its 26th win of the season.
While Brooklyn's 18-22 record suggests the team is hardly an unstoppable force, it has been one of the hottest teams in the league since the calendar turned to 2014.
The Nets are 8-1 in January and they notched their seventh straight home win on Tuesday night, defeating the Magic 101-90. Brooklyn was an efficient 49.4 percent from the floor and it dished out 29 assists while only turning the ball over eight times in the double digit victory.
The Mavericks have won six of the last eight games in this inter-conference series, but the Nets are 2-1 in the last three meetings between the two teams.
Notable Trends: Brooklyn is 0-10 both straight up and against the spread in its last 10 games as a home favorite with a total between 200 and 205 points.
