In just a few hours the 146th running of the Belmont Stakes will take place at Belmont Park in New York. The event is scheduled for a start time of 6:52 pm (EST) and will be televised on NBC. There are several Contenders in the event, including Commanding Curve, who will start in the 4th slot and has been installed as 15/1 Odds to win the Belmont Stakes.
Commanding Curve Record: 1-2-2 in 7 Races. Trainer: Dallas Stewart. Jockey: Shaun Bridgmohan Sire: Master Command Dam: Mother Best Beyer Speed: 94
Commanding Curve won one time in seven starts, breaking his maiden at 1 1/16 miles on the dirt November 30, 2013 at Churchill Downs. He finished second behind California Chrome in the Kentucky Derby. He was 18th after a half-mile and 11th after a mile. Swinging eight wide on the far turn, he rallied strongly before coming up 1 ¾ lengths short. Great closing speed by this horse.
Commanding Curve will be run by jockey Shaun Bridgmohan, who has over 2,000 victories in more than 160 stakes and over 60 graded stakes in his career. He has a strong 2011 Kentucky Derby mount in Santiva who he rode victoriously in the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes (GII) during Churchill Downs’ 2010 Fall Meet. He also rode Commanding Curve to 2nd place finish in this year’s Kentucky Derby. He received the 1998 Eclipse Award for Apprentice Jockey and his first Grade I winner was in the 2000 Carter Handicap aboard Brutally Frank.
Commanding Curve is from the final crop by multiple Grade 2 route winner and millionaire Master Command, who died in 2010. Master Command, who won the William Donald Schaefer Handicap and the Meadowlands Breeders' Cup Stakes, reached the peak of his powers as a five-year-old, when romping in the New Orleans, Mineshaft and National Jockey Club Handicaps. The Lion Hearted mare Mother scored both her career victories at six furlongs.
