Wisconsin owns arguably the two “best” losses on the season to Michigan and Ohio State. Outside of that, the Badgers own decent wins over fifth-ranked LSU and seventh-ranked Nebraska at the time, plus they beat Michigan State back when the country thought they were decent.
The Badgers are a gritty bunch that has a solid defense despite battling some injuries there. Opponents are scoring just over two touchdowns per game (14.6) and in total defense they rank ninth-best in the country. Wisconsin tackles well, they are a physical group and they don’t get beat giving up big plays.
Northwestern is having a decent season, but they are giving up a ton of yards through the air per game. Wisconsin isn’t a team that loves to throw it on every down but Alex Hornibrook can complete a tough pass if needed.
The Wildcats have won each of the last two meetings in this series. They love to hang onto the football and use up clock, but Wisconsin is also great when it comes to time of possession as well. A win here for the Badgers, coupled with a loss by Nebraska at Ohio State, would give the Badgers a first-place spot at the end of the day. But after playing five straight tough games, they could be on letdown alert here, so this could be close.
