Iowa looked like it could be a solid program heading into the season, but things have not gone nearly as well for the Hawkeyes. A loss early to North Dakota State showed they might be just another Kirk Ferentz team filled with vanilla play and barely getting wins over opponents. Iowa lost again a couple weeks ago to Northwestern, plus they own single-touchdown wins over both Rutgers and Minnesota.
Wisconsin is favored to a reason. The Badgers have losses to Ohio State and Michigan and have played a considerably tougher schedule compared to Iowa as the Hawkeyes have played nobody. Wisconsin freshman QB Alex Hornibrook has really grown up during his time under center and has given the Badgers a chance to win both of their tough games.
This game is played for the Heartland Trophy and the visitor has won seven of the last nine games with the Hawkeyes winning last season. The problem for the Badgers coming into this one could be the prototypical “letdown” spot as Wisconsin is coming off a game against Ohio State where they had a chance to win and probably should have if they were able to get a fourth quarter stop.
Tough for the Badgers to get up for a third big road game against a rival. This one could come down to the final possession.
