The Virginia Tech Hokies will welcome in the Western Michigan Broncos in college football action Saturday. The game is scheduled for a 12:30 p.m. start time and it will be televised live on ESPN Gameplan. Currently the odds for the game have the Hokies favored by three touchdowns.
Virginia Tech has won all three matchups with Western Michigan, most recently beating them 63-0 in 2004. Frank Beamer is still calling the shots for the Hokies, who need another win here to help stabilize their season.
The Hokies have gone 2-2 this season with both of their losses coming at home. They somehow found a way to beat up on Ohio State in Columbus but then backed that up with losses, in their own building, to East Carolina and Georgia Tech. Both those losses obviously were close, by a combined 10 points, but the Hokies weren't able to close the deal.
Western Michigan is 2-1 on the season after winning just once last year. The Broncos are riding a two-game winning streak, beating Idaho and Murray State after a season-opening loss to Purdue. The boys of Kalamazoo are looking for a much better season under P.J. Fleck and should be able to build upon their last two victories. Jarvion Franklin piled up 225 yards on the ground last week, but it won't be easy against the Hokies. But with Virginia Tech's struggles the last two weeks it's hard to tell what they are going to bring to the table in this game tonight against the Broncos.
Hokie quarterback Michael Brewer needs to avoid turning the football over to keep Western from building up confidence in this one. If the Broncos are able to hang around and can move the football, they will put a scare into the Hokies.
