The Utah Utes picked up a big win on the road last week, now they welcome in the Washington State Cougars in college football action on Saturday. The game is scheduled for an 8 p.m. start time and it will be televised live on the Pac-12 Network. Currently the odds for the game have Utah favored by nearly a couple of touchdowns.
Utah is coming off a big win in Ann Arbor last weekend over Michigan. They used defense, special teams and just enough offense to have an impressive win over the Wolverines. Now they play host to Washington State, a team that throws the ball nearly every play on offense and are looking for the upset.
Utah has raced to a 3-0 start and they're laying a couple of touchdowns in this one. While that might be a bit of an overreaction, it is worth noting that Washington State has only beaten Portland State this season — while losing to Rutgers, Nevada and Oregon. Ugh.
There's a reason Washington State can't win football games, too. A lack of any sort of run game at all makes them one dimensional on offense and they've allowed opponents to score 31 points per game on average. They nearly knocked off Oregon last week in a game the Ducks couldn't protect Marcus Mariota. But in the end, it was only a moral victory for the Cougs.
Pac-12 opener for the Utes, but also homecoming in this one. A potential move to 4-0 is definitely going to have this team ready to go.
Special teams will be important in this one as Utah is very solid in that area. If they are able to flip the field, use field position to their advantage and not turn the football over, it will be a huge boost for them.
Connor Halliday has already thrown for better than 1,900 yards this season and 16 touchdowns. Utah's secondary will be tested in this game, but without being able to run the football the Utes are going to be able to pin their ears back and get after the quarterback. Look for some defensive stops, good special teams play and the Utes to pick up a homecoming win.
