The Washington State Cougars are hosting the Washington Huskies in college football action on Friday afternoon. The game is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on FOX. The college football odds for the game have the Huskies favored by nearly a touchdown to pick up the victory on the road.

Washington State hasn’t been this good in some time. Now the Cougars find themselves in a huge game with arch rival Washington in the Apple Cup. The winner of the game will head to the Pac 12 title game as the representative from the north as both enter this week with 7-1 records.

The Cougars started the season with a pair of losses to Eastern?Washington and Boise State by a combined six points. Had they won each of those, the season could have been even more special for Mike Leach’s bunch, but a two-touchdown loss last week against a stingy Colorado team showed some struggles for the Wazzu defense, which gave up more than 600 yards of offense to Colorado.

Both teams can move the football and both average better than 40 points per game. Washington’s defense has been very strong all season and Washington State’s has done a well enough job on that side of the football to help them win some games. The Huskies, though, do sport an advantage on that side of the ball with twice as many sacks (34-17) and allow teams to 80 less yards per game over the course of the season.

This should be a tight game with quarterback play being a plus for both squads. Jake Browning has been excellent all season for the Huskies (37 TDs, 7 INTs), Luke Falk has nearly identical numbers with 36 scores and seven picks, but better than 225 more attempts. This is such a big game for Washington State that the pressure could be too much, but a win here puts a program not far removed from sadness into the conference title game.
