The UCLA Bruins, ranked 13th in the country, open their season at home in College Football Saturday action when they take on the Virginia Cavaliers. The game is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on FOX. Currently the college football odds for the game have the Bruins favored by double digits at home in this one.
UCLA is breaking in a team with talent and athleticism this year. The Bruins are coming off back-to-back 10 win seasons and looking to have another successful campaign beginning later today.
Virginia is bringing back four starters from the offense last year, but at the quarterback position Greyson Lambert is now calling plays at Georgia. Mike London's team is going to have to grow up fast and the opening two games of the season against UCLA and Notre Dame won't help matters. Oh, after that they play Boise State a week later as well. London has come under some fire of late as his teams have really struggled the last four years, missing bowl games and going just 11-25 in that time.
UCLA doesn't care that Virginia is struggling. Jim Mora has talent on both sides of the football and the Bruins are battling USC in a battle of LA teams for supremacy out West. Those two will play in the final game of the season and that game should have some serious ramifications on the college football playoff and big bowl games.
The Bruins are going to start true freshman Josh Rosen, the heralded quarterback looking to pick apart the Cavaliers in his first real action. Virginia's defense was surprisingly decent last year, ranking 32nd nationally in scoring defense in allowing 24.1 points per game. UCLA should have no problems getting past that number today, especially with their stable of tailbacks that are looking to pound the football, led by Paul Perkins.
Perkins rumbled for better than 1,500 yards last season and scored nine touchdowns. He'll get a healthy load again today as the Bruins build an early lead and cruise to the win.

Vegas betting expert Steve Fezzik doesn’t expect the bad situation in Oakland to get much better this season. This AFC West team may have some improvements in terms of personnel, but Jack Del Rio is the latest in a carousel of ever-changing mediocre coaches, and Fezzik doesn’t expect he is the guy to turn this team around. He also thinks people are overstating Derek Carr’s abilities at quarterback, as he may do well in the fourth quarter, but his numbers are padded with garbage time performance.
