College Football Thursday heads to Seattle, Washington as Pac-12 rivals Stanford and Washington square off at CenturyLink Field (9:00pm ET start time, ESPN). Stanford vs Washington Odds are favoring the visiting Cardinal at -6.5 against the spread while the Huskies are listed as a +210 moneyline play ($100 wins $210) to win their third game of the season. The game total in this evening’s rivalry contest is set at 48 points.
Stanford proved at least one thing, perhaps, two in last week’s upset of Pac-12 favorite USC. One, the program Jim Harbaugh built, which is now run by David Shaw, is more than Andrew Luck, and two, the Trojans may not be the team preseason rankings suggested.
While Matt Barkley’s two first half picks seemed to be the talk after the Trojans loss to the Cardinal, the focus should have been on Stanford’s dominance along the line of scrimmage. The Cardinal controlled the game in the trenches and the stats bore that out as USC finished with 15 first downs, 280 total yards, and a 0.9 yards per carry average.
Those numbers ought to scare Washington, which struggled on offense in its first two games, The Huskies put 21 points on the board in their opener against San Diego State and they tallied three points and 183 total yards in a week two loss at LSU.
Washington did shake loose last weekend, totaling 52 points and 429 yards, but it did so against FCS school Portland State.
Tonight’s game represents an interesting spot for both teams as its Stanford’s first road game and Washington’s first conference affair. The Cardinal is the better squad and they probably benefited from a weekend off following their upset of the Trojans. Had they played last weekend a letdown may have been in order, but that should not be a factor now.
Free Pick: Take Stanford -6.5. Stanford is 6-0 straight up and 5-1 against the spread as a road favorite with a spread between 4 and 7.5 points. The Cardinal is also 4-0 both straight up and against the spread in the last four games in this series, beating the Huskies by an average of 28 points per game. The gap between the two programs has grown in recent years and nothing about Washington’s performance this season suggests that it has gained much ground on its North Division rival.
Stanford vs Washington Odds:
Stanford Cardinal -6.5 (-110), Over 48 (-110), -250 (Moneyline)
Washington Huskies +6.5 (-110), Under 48 (-110), +210 (Moneyline)
