The under appreciated Paul Rhoads and his Iowa State Cyclones open conference play this weekend as they host undefeated Texas Tech at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames. Saturday’s meeting between the Cyclones and Red Raiders has a scheduled start time of 7:00pm ET. Texas Tech comes into today’s game with a 3-0 record, but it has yet to be tested. The Red Raiders walked through one of the more nondescript early season slates, dispatching Northwestern State, Texas State, and New Mexico by an average of 40.3 points per game.
While Iowa State is hardly a national power it does represent a step up in competition for the Red Raiders. The Cyclones are also 3-0 on the season with wins over Tulsa, Iowa, and Western Illinois and they are coming off a week of rest.
Tuberville should be well aware of the trap his former defensive coordinator (Auburn) represents as Iowa State has won and covered in the last two meetings between the two programs. The Cyclones made a big statement against Tech last year, smashing the Red Raiders 41-7 in Lubbock as a 16 road dog.
Will vengeance be the Red Raiders or will Iowa State extend its series win streak to three games in this clash of Big 12 underlings? It difficult to say but there should be plenty of scoring if the recent scores in this series mean anything. Five of the last six games between these two schools have sailed past the posted today’s posted total of 58 points.
