The Kansas State Wildcats are hosting the Texas Longhorns in college football action on Saturday. The game is scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN2. This could be the turning point for Charlie Strong at Texas. A win here would keep him on the job with some momentum going into the Baylor game, where a win at home against the Bears is possible at home. Texas has lost both of its road games to date, giving up 50 points at California and 49 points at Oklahoma State. Obviously the defense has to be better in this instance, giving up 34 points per game for the season have them ranked 106th nationally. That’s horrible for the Longhorns, who have actually been solid offensively.
The Horns come into this one off a 27-6 win over Iowa State, they piled up better than 500 yards offensively and were very balanced. Kansas State will look to find a way to slow them down and remain in control here.
The Wildcats have won six of the last eight games in this series and Kansas State has won four straight games in Manhattan over the Horns. Texas won last year in Austin 23-9 in a rain-soaked contest that was the fourth consecutive defeat for the Wildcats.
Kansas State has had inconsistent play at quarterback, they’re going to need Jesse Ertz on the field to be able to provide them with both a throwing quarterback and one who can also make plays with his feet.
Texas is starting a freshman who is learning and getting better each week. Shane Buechele has thrown for 13 touchdowns, but he’s thrown an interception in five of the six games as well.
Kansas State is always tough to beat at home, but Texas has to find a way to win this game in order to save their coach. It feels like Kansas State should be a bigger favorite in this one, but they’re only favored by a field goal.
