The South Carolina Gamecocks look to get back on track when they travel to take on the Kentucky Wildcats in college football action Saturday. The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start time and it will be televised live on the SEC Network. Currently the odds for the game have the Gamecocks favored in this one.
Lot of people talking about how Kentucky has taken the next step and could shock the Gamecocks in this one tonight. Makes sense, as South Carolina is coming off another loss last week, in gut-wrenching style, to Missouri. The defeat puts South Carolina at 2-2 for the conference slate while Kentucky sits at 3-1 (1-1 in the SEC) on the year.
The Gamecocks have won 13 of the last 14 over Kentucky, however. The Wildcats might be moving in the right direction and South Carolina could be dragging a bit after last week's loss, but the Wildcats still don't know how to beat the Gamecocks.
At quarterback Patrick Towles has looked good, but does have just two more touchdowns than interceptions this season. Kentucky hasn't really played anybody of note, other than Florida, either. South Carolina will be their fourth home game in their first five contests of the season, but still will bring the best defense (other than Florida) in the first six weeks of the season as Kentucky plays Louisiana-Monroe next week.
In this one, South Carolina has the ability to determine their season. If Steve Spurrier's group packs it up and leaves, their season could certainly turn for the worse. But picking up a win over the Wildcats would put them at 3-2 in the SEC East with a couple of tough games left on the schedule. South Carolina benefits from a bye next week before hosting Furman, so don't expect a look-ahead in this one at all. The ole ball coach should have his team ready to go and Dylan Thompson is going to have to throw the football and play well. Look for Mike Davis to have a big game on the ground as well for the Gamecocks, who will win for the 14th time in 15 matchups with Kentucky.
