The Notre Dame Fighting Irish look to continue their unbeaten season in college football action Saturday when they are on the road against the Virginia Cavaliers. The game is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on NBC. Currently the odds for the game have the Irish favored to roll over the Cavaliers in this one.
Notre Dame has been the sexy pick among teams that could end up in the college football playoff. The Irish looked very solid in their opening game, beating up on what appears to be another underachieving Texas team. The Irish posted 38 points in that one, quarterback Malik Zaire was impressive with 313 yards through the air and three scores. Texas had no answer for the Irish offense, which eclipsed 200 yards on the ground as well.
Virginia comes in having lost 34-16 at UCLA last week, allowing freshman quarterback Josh Rosen to throw for 351 yards and three touchdowns in that game. Virginia might not be as bad defensively as it showed last Saturday, are the Irish as good as they looked against Texas?
The Cavaliers are probably playing for head coach Mike London’s job this season, they’ve really been an underachieving team, but hosting Notre Dame in the season opener could prove to be an upset-type scenario. The Irish have covered the number just four times as a road favorite under Brian Kelly, but this week should be the fifth.
ND’s defense played well against Texas and despite the Cavalier faithful getting up and being ready for this one, the Irish roll into town and head home with a comfortable win.
