Saturday college football and we will see the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors take on the Colorado Buffalos at Folsom Field in Boulder, Colorado. The game has a start time of 2:00 pm (Eastern) and will be televised on the Pac-12 Network. Current Vegas odds have the Buffaloes listed as 8.5 point favorites, while the total is set at 61.
Analysis: 1-15! That is the mark that the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors have put up in their first two years in MWC play. Im not sure this year will be a whole lot better, even with 48 lettermen back including 13 starters. Still they have shown improvement this year and have been very competitive in their losses to Washington and Oregon State. Last week Hawaii did get their first win of the year, a 27-24 decision over FCS foe Northern Iowa. The Rainbow Warriors did have a 24-10 lead heading into the 4 th quarter but did have to sweat the game out in the End. Ikaika Woolsey has not really been the answer for Hawaii at QB as he has completed just 46.7% of his passes for 631 yards. He has just 1 TD pass, but also hasn’t really hurt his team with mistakes as he has just INT on the season so far. Overall the Hawaii offense is ranked 91st in yards (377.7 ypg) and 94th in scoring (24.3 ppg), while on defense they are 59th in yards allowed (373.3 ypg) and 76th in points allowed (26.3 ppg).
The Colorado buffaloes are off to a 1-2 start with their only win being a 41-38 decision at Massachusetts two weeks ago. Last week they played their Pac-12 opener and lost 38-24 in a game that the Buffaloes totally out played Arizona State. In the game the Buffaloes outgained the Sun Devils by 119 yards and outfirstdowned them by 10, while also hitting 44% of their third downs, to ASU’s 31%. The season they lost was that they had 3 TOs to ASU’s none. Colorado put up 545 yards in the game and they have been decent on offense this year, ranking 48th in total offense (464.7 ypg), 37th in passing (290.7 ypg) and 86th in scoring (27.3 ppg). The defense has not been so good as they rank 81st in yards allowed (399 ypg) and 106th in points allowed (35.7 ppg).
Pick: Hawaii really played well in their first two games vs Washington and Oregon State, but both those games were at home and this one will be on the mainland, where the Rainbow Warriors always struggle. This game will really be tough for them as it will be played at 9 am Hawaii time. The Buffaloes are 1-2 on the year and they did struggle in their lone win, which was vs UMass on the road. The Buffaloes are an improved team this year and last week they really show some improvement by thoroughly outplaying the Arizona State Sun Devils, even though they lost by 14. While the Buffaloes were facing Arizona State and playing well vs them, Hawaii was playing at home and nearly losing to FCS foe Northern Iowa. Hawaii will be without their top RB Joey Iiosefa, while we note that the Buffaloes are 12-2 ATS at home vs sub .400 opponents. Too much for the Rainbow Warriors to overcome here.
