The Auburn Tigers welcome in the San Jose State Spartans in college football action tonight. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN2. Currently the odds for the game have Auburn favored to win this game by more than four touchdowns.
Auburn rolled up almost 600 yards of total offense against Arkansas last game, despite the contest being tied at halftime. The Tigers went on to dominate in the second half, out-scoring Arkansas 24-0 despite a weather delay. But it must still be nice to kick off and win the opening game of the season against a rival and conference foe, then get a layup the next week.
San Jose State is going to get a beating in this one. Auburn's offense looked awesome in the opening week of the season despite not playing with Nick Johnson the opening half because of his suspension for pot possession. Jeremy Jackson looked very good as well, but coach Gus Malzahn didn't rule him out when it comes to playing in this one. This is clearly just a tuneup for Auburn, which has next Saturday off before traveling to Manhattan, Kansas on a Thursday night to take on Kansas State in a hostile environment. If it wasn't for the amount of time off, Auburn might slouch a bit in this game but with enough time in between, we don't see a let down.
Look for Auburn to run the football consistently all game and do it well. The Tiger defense is much better than anything San Jose State can put on the field and it will be tough for the Spartans to put up many points.
