The Nevada Wolfpack welcome in the San Diego State Aztecs in college football action tonight. The game is scheduled for a 10:30 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on the CBS Sports Network. Currently the odds for the game have the Wolfpack favored by about a field goal in this one.
Nevada comes in with just a 2-2 record overall in the Mountain West Conference, sitting a game behind their opponent San Diego State on Saturday night. The Wolfpack already have five wins on the season overall and have won two consecutive contests, beating both BYU and Hawaii on the road. This is the first home game since a one-touchdown loss to Colorado State back on October 11, and it will be interesting to see how the Wolfpack react to being at home, where they are just 2-2 this season.
San Diego State won won back-to-back games over New Mexico and Hawaii, so Nevada should be a step up in competition for the Aztecs. San Diego State is not a very good offensive team, though, averaging less than 24 points per game as they have trouble consistently moving the football. They rank 24th best in the country at running the football (227 yards), but San Diego State really struggles to get the football vertically down the field, averaging just 170 yards through the air per game, which ranks 115th in the country.
Defensively though, the Aztecs are pretty good as they allow less than 19 points per game to their opponents, which ranks 12th best in the country. In this series, however, Nevada has won three straight games and has covered the number in all three of those games, with the last two games going to overtime. Last year San Diego State led by three touchdowns late in the game but found a way to lose in overtime to the Wolfpack.
Cody Fajardo is the dual-threat guy to lead Nevada to an average of 30 points per game. A well-balanced club, the Wolfpack earn 413 yards offensively per game with Fajardo having a lot to do with that, leading the team in passing (obviously) and rushing this season, combining for 21 touchdowns. He will be the critical piece for the Wolfpack as they welcome in an Aztec team looking to stop him on every play.
But San Diego State won't have enough firepower offensively to hang around in this one. Nevada's defense is no slouch, but isn't the best in the conference either. If the Wolfpack play well at home and get a good showing offensively, they will be able to pick up a win here at home. The Wolfpack are looking for that sixth win on the season and although they've lost their last two games at home, they will rally together to get the win in this one
