The undefeated Stanford Cardinal are in Seattle tonight for a showdown with the surprising Washington State Cougars. The two Pac-12 North adversaries are scheduled to kick things off at 10:00pm ET at CenturyLink Field; the game will be broadcast live on ESPN. Stanford ran its record to 3-0 last weekend as it feasted on a fat and happy Arizona State squad in Palo Alto. The Cardinal, after solid but unspectacular wins over San Jose State (34-13) and Army (34-20), polished off the Sun Devils, who were, obviously, riding a little high after their win over Wisconsin, 42-28.

Stanford jumped out to a 29-0 first half lead and it carried a 39-7 advantage into the final frame, which apparently lit a fire in ASU. The Sun Devils scored three unanswered touchdowns in the fourth to make what should have been a complete blowout look something close to a decent ball game.

The Cardinal can probably expect a completely different game tonight against Mike Leach's Cougars. Washington State has not played the most intimidating group of offensive teams this season, but it has played spectacular defense nonetheless.

Since giving up 25 points in the first half of its season opening 31-24 loss at Auburn, Washington State has allowed just 23 points, which explains why it brings a 3-1 record into this evening's showdown with Stanford.

The Cougars offense figures to struggle this evening, just as it did against USC's stout defense, but home field advantage and an unflinching defense should help keep them within striking distance of the Cardinal.
