Saturday college football and we will see the Ohio Bobcats take on the Kentucky Wildcats at Commonwealth Stadium in Lexington, Kentucky. The game has a start time of 3:30 pm (Eastern) and will be televised on ESPN U. Current Vegas odds have the Wildcats listed as 13.5 point favorites, while the total is set at 52.5.
Analysis: Frank Solich has done a good job here of late, after taking the Ohio Bobcats to their 5th straight bowl game in a row. This year he must rebuild his offense but the defense may just have enough to get this team to their 6th straight bowl game. The Bobcats have started tye season at 1-0 thanks to their 17-14 win over Kent State, despite the fact that they were -4 in the turnover battle in the game. The game really shouldn’t have been that close as the Bobcats outgained the Flashes by a 437-295 count and they held Kent to just 31 yards on the ground at 1.4 ypc. Derrius Vick had a solid game, completing 18 of 24 passes for 262 yards and 2 TDs, while Landon Smith had 7 receptions for 71 yards and 2 TDs.
The Kentucky Wildcats have won just 2 games in each of the last two and none of them have been in the SEC. This year they have 15 starters back and are in the 2nd year of Mark Stoops systems, so they should be an improved team. The Wildcats looked really good in their opener, but it was vs FSC foe UT-Martin. The Cats had an excellent offensive game, putting up 656 yards, including 234 yards on the ground with a whopping 8.4 yards per carry. That yards per carry may be a bit misleading as Braylon Heard had 116 yards rushing on just 2 carries. Those two carries both went for TDs, with one being 73 yards and the other being 43 yards. The defense did struggle some as they allowed UT Martin 398 yards of total offense, including 183 yards on the ground.
Pick: Watch out for the Kentucky Wildcats this year. They are in the 2nd year of Mark Stoops system and he has done a very good job recruiting in his time here. They have 15 starters back and just put up 656 yards and 59 points on UT-Martin. The Cats have gone 6-0 SU & ATS in their last 6 meetings with MAC teams. Two years ago the Cats went just 2-10 on the season, while Kent State went 11-3 that year still the Cats beat the Golden Flashes by 33 points that year and this year’s version of Kentucky football is much better. Ohio escaped with a 17-14 win over rival Kent State last week, as 4 TOs by the Bobcats kept the Golden Flashes in the game. Kentucky forced 5 TO’s in their opener vs UT- Martin and could force a few more here. The Cats have outscored MAC foes by 18 ppg in the last 6 meetings should win by at least that much here as well.
