The Stanford Cardinal open the college football season at home Friday night when they host the Kansas State Wildcats. The game is scheduled for a 9:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on FOX Sports 1. Currently the betting odds for the game have the Cardinal favored to pick up a comfortable win.

Stanford begins the season ranked inside the Top 10, coming in at No. 8 in the AP Poll as they host an un-ranked Kansas State team. Give the Cardinal credit for playing a game like this, and maybe even more credit to Kansas State for taking a road trip up to play a tough opponent.

The Cardinal have the Heisman candidate in Christian McCafferey, who piled up all kinds of yards last season and is poised to do the same in 2016. Stanford has to replace a rock in quarterback Kevin Hogan, Cardinal head coach David Shaw has talked about possibly playing a couple of guys there but it obviously remains to be seen what kind of productivity they will get from that position.

Stanford went on the road last year to open the season and lost at Northwestern, a game that probably kept them out of the college football playoff. At home, the Cardinal have won eight straight season openers by an average of almost four touchdowns, but Kansas State should be a solid opponent.

If the Cardinal defense can play up to its potential, they should pick up a win in comfort.
