Analysis: California had a very rough season last year, but have gotten off to a 3-1 start this year. They could very well be 4-0 at this point if not for a hail mary pass that connected for Arizona at the end of that game. California is 3-1 ATS this year and 3 of their 4 games have gone over the total so far, but they are just 4-9 ATS the last 13 in this series. Jared Goff has had an incredible start to his season, as he has thrown for 1348 yards with 17 TDs and just 3 INTs on the year so far. He leads an offense that ranks 12th overall (538.2 ypg), 7th in passing (366 ypg) and 5th in scoring (45.7 ppg). The defense has not been so good for this team as they 113th in yards allowed (478 ypg) 126th in passing yards allowed (312.2 ypg) and 107th in points allowed (35.8 ypg).
The Washington State Cougars come in at 2-3 on the year and are off a late upset win over the Utah Utes, and that win followed a game vs Oregon in which they lost by just 7 points. The Cougars are 3-2 ATS this year, but just 1-7 ATS as home favs of less than 7 points. Just like Jared Goff, Connor Halliday has had a great start to his season, throwing for 2318 yards, with 20 TDs and 7 INTs so far. Halliday spreads the ball around as well as 3 players have at least 32 receptions and 404 yards so far. The Cougars come in ranked 14th in total offense (533 ypg), 1st in passing offense (480.8 ypg) and 54th in scoring (33.8 ypg). The defense for this team has not been good, as they come in ranked 80th in yards allowed (408 ypg), and 90th in points allowed (30.2 ppg).
