Michigan State -6.5
Total: 42 points
Michigan State is not having a good season. The Spartans are 2-3 and have dropped three straight games as they struggle on both sides of the football, especially on the offensive side. The quarterback position is a mess now that they no longer have an NFL prospect there — Tyler O’Connor has not taken control of the offense like the Spartans have wanted and Mark Dantonio has now made all three QBs unavailable to talk to the press this week.
Problems indeed. Many believe Damion Terry is the guy MSU should go with, but he’s had plenty of time to dethrone O’Connor and hasn’t been able to do so.
Northwestern is also 2-3 on the season but they have played better in recent weeks, nearly knocking off Nebraska a couple of weeks back and winning at Iowa last game. The Wildcats are looking to continue that winning this weekend in a game they can win.
Spirits cannot be high in East Lansing and Northwestern coming in off a bye week should be rested up and ready to go. In years past Pat Fitzgerald teams might get pushed around physically in a game like this, but with no clear option at QB and the Wildcats looking to continue to play well, MSU is due for another letdown.
Justin Jackson had a monster game against Iowa with 171 yards last time out. MSU is stout against that run, but the Spartans are just a mess right now.
