The Nevada Wolfpack hit the road in college football action on Saturday when they take on the San Jose State Spartans. The game is scheduled for a 10:30 p.m. start time and it will be televised live on the CBS Sports Network. Currently the odds for the game have Nevada favored on the road.
Nevada has picked up five straight wins over San Jose State and won 10 of the last 11 in the series as well. They've covered the number in eight of those 11 games, being favored in 10 of the matchups.
The Wolfpack are coming into this game tonight off a bye week and just a touchdown loss at Arizona in their last game. The 2-1 Nevada squad picked up a couple of close wins to open their season, beating Southern Utah and Washington State by a combined 20 points. This is a pretty solid football team that will look to get a Mountain West victory over the Spartan tonight on the road. Nevada has been moving the football, averaging better than 433 yards per game offensively and scoring almost 27 points per game. Those numbers will likely increase after tonight's game.
The Spartans are just 1-2 for the year and allow opponents to score 31 points per game. Obviously that number is a bit stretched out because Auburn hung 59 on them, but Minnesota also beat up on the Spartans last week in a 24-7 win.
Offensively San Jose State has struggled as they have some problems up front. Nevada should be able to control the line of scrimmage in this game and push the Spartan defensive front around as well. San Jose State has allowed their last two opponents to rush for more than 350 yards. Nevada loves to run the ball with dual-threat quarterback Cody Fajardo and leading rusher Don Jackson. The running option from Fajardo is going to be the difference in this one. His ability to leave the pocket and scramble or take off on designed runs will cause the Spartans problems and put points on the board for Nevada.
The Wolfpack are rested and ready to win on the road in this conference opener. Expect Fajardo to have a big game.
