The Tennessee Volunteers are taking on the Nebraska Cornhuskers today in the Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl. Nebraska looks to be without quarterback Tommy Armstrong, which makes them a bit of a different team. The Cornhuskers dropped three of their last five games while Armstrong dealt with his injury, but it's also the time that Nebraska's schedule got considerably tougher.
Having the extra time for practice has probably helped new quarterback Ryker Fyfe and the Cornhuskers offense. In his one game where he played significant snaps, Fyfe threw for 220 yards and a touchdown while completing 23-of-37 snaps. Tennessee's defense is not good, ranking 109th nationally and 113th against the run.
Terrell Newby hasn't had a 100-yard rushing performance since a win over Indiana in mid-October. The Huskers are going to give him plenty of opportunity to reach that number in this one.
Tennessee, like Nebraska, was ranked inside the Top 10 nationally earlier this season. They then struggled a bit, losing three straight to Texas A&M, Alabama and South Carolina before regaining some footing and winning three games against inferior competition. Some concern should come following a loss at Vanderbilt though, where Tennessee was out-scored 14-0 in the fourth quarter.
Josh Dobbs is a big-play quarterback that can put up some points. He's combined for 35 touchdowns this season and is playing his final game for the Vols, but Nebraska's defense will look to put pressure on him consistently.
Mile Riley is 7-2 in bowl games as a coach, often times leading his team to bowl games that aren't flashy. He should have the Huskers motivated.
