The West Virginia Mountaineers are playing host to the Missouri Tigers in college football action on Saturday. The game is scheduled for a noon start time and it will be televised nationally on FOX Sports 1. Currently the betting odds for the game have the Mountaineers favored by better than a touchdown to pick up the win at home.
College Football Odds
Missouri -9.5
Total: 50 points
Missouri was not good last year, winning just five games. The Tigers dropped six of the last seven games last season, a terrible year following a couple of double-digit win seasons.
West Virginia won eight games in 2015, this year they bring eight starters back on the offensive side of the football. Skyler Howard returns at quarterback, he tossed for 3,100 yards and 26 scores last year to lead a Mountaineer team that averaged 34 points per game. Howard’s top two receivers come back as well as Shelton Gibson and Daikiel Shorts combined for 14 touchdowns and 82 catches.
West Virginia’s defense has gotten better as well, improving from a team that gave up better than 38 points per game in 2012 to one that gave up just over 24 per contest last season. The two-touchdown improvement helped them get to the eight wins in 2015, but they lost all four games against ranked opponents last season.
Missouri just doesn’t have the offense to go point-for-point, but the defense was stout last year even with even losses. That might keep them in this one, but West Virginia is tough at home.
