The Houston?Cougars are on the road in college football action tonight, taking on the SMU?Mustangs. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN2. The college football odds for the game have the Cougars favored to pick up the victory on the road.

Houston is still a very talented team that can make some noise this season, but a lott to Navy could spell their ultimate bowl chances. The Midshipmen lead the American West standings and haven’t played since the Oct. 8 win over the Cougars. Navy holds the keys to the division crown and could win out and keep Houston from potentially playing in a massive bowl game. Houston, though, just needs to continue to take care of business.
They’re going to be heavily favored in all but one of their remaining regular season games, with one game coming up against Louisville in a couple of weeks. The Cougars are ranked 11th nationally and can score a ton of points, led by quarterback Greg Ward Jr. and his 17 combined touchdowns.
The Cougars rank inside the Top 20 nationally in both points scored per game, 41.9 (12th) and points allowed with 19 (20th). That combination has allowed them to pile up six wins already, but the loss to Navy saw them give up 46 points and lose a game while eclipsing 40 themselves. SMU is 2-4 overall and 0-2 in league play.
They give up almost 33 points per game and have no real threats on offense in scoring just 23.5 per contest. The Mustangs have dropped three straight overall to TCU, Temple and Tulsa by a combined 121-63, with 40 of those points coming in the most recent loss on the road at Tulsa. SMU just won’t be able to keep up with the Cougars here.
