The Virginia Cavaliers have another tough opponent this week, hosting the Boise State Broncos Friday in college football action. The game is scheduled for an 8:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN. Currently the betting odds for the game have the Broncos favored by about a field goal on the road.
Virginia has already played, and lost, to a pair of Top 10 teams in UCLA and Notre Dame, along with a close win over William and Mary last week. The point spread on this one is interesting as Boise State has looked like the better team on the field comparatively. The Cavaliers did not play well against William and Mary, escaping with a 35-29 win at home. If Virginia was “looking ahead” after dropping a pair of games early in the season that would not be good for the program, but even after those defeats if they are able to pick up a win here over visiting Boise State it would make them 2-2 with a solid chance to have a decent season.
Boise State is 2-1 entering this contest, having beaten Washington and Idaho State last week. The Broncos were on the wrong side of the crazy BYU story that saw the Cougars pick up a come-from-behind win for a second straight week, but they rebounded well. The game against Idaho State was a tune-up for this battle with a power conference squad, albeit Virginia, on the road.
This will be the first meeting between the schools, but Boise State is no stranger to coming to the east side of the country to play competition. The Broncos are going to need a solid game from Ryan Finley in this one. He threw three picks against BYU and hurt his team’s ability to win the game, but he will be looking to have a better game in this one. The Broncos could use a solid game all-around, especially after whipping up on Idaho State last week. Virginia is tough to back right now.
