The Red River Rivalry on Saturday will see the Oklahoma Sooners take on the Texas Longhorns. The game is scheduled for a 12 p.m. (EST) start time and it will be televised nationally on ABC. Currently the odds for the game have Oklahoma favored by 13.5 points to win.
The 108th meeting of the Red River Rivalry takes place on Saturday when the No. 12 Oklahoma Sooners take on the Texas Longhorns at the Cotton Bowl during the State Fair of Texas. Oklahoma has won three straight in this series and four of the last six overall. The Sooners have scored 55 and 63 points in back-to-back wins while holding Texas to a combined 38 points.
A lot of people thought Texas could be a potential Big 12 conference winner and a BCS participant. Yet, the Longhorns dropped back-to-back weeks against BYU on the road and Ole Miss at home. In neither game did Texas play well on defense, giving up 40 and 44 points, respectively. Plus the Horns had to win in the final seconds last week against Iowa State.
But, outside of 56 points in the opening week over New Mexico State, the Longhorns have scored their highest output of the season the last two weeks at 31 points. Oklahoma comes in averaging 31 points per game and their defense is very good, allowing just 13 points per game, which ranks sixth best in the country.
Getting the start for Texas will be Case McCoy over David Ash, who is still out with his injury.
Oklahoma is very good in total defense, ranking ninth and their sixth in pass efficiency as well. Will they be able to shut down the Texas offense? It could happen.
But look for the Horns to step up big in this one. Both teams are pretty solid in the turnover differential. We like the Texas special teams to make a play or two in this one as well. We think they'll keep it close.
