College Football Free Pick Tennessee Volunteers vs Oklahoma Sooners

Saturday college football and we will see the Tennessee Volunteers take on the Oklahoma Soners at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. The game has a start time of 8:00 pm (Eastern) and will be televised on ABC. Current Vegas odds have the Sooners listed as 20.5 point favorites, while the total is set at 58.

Analysis: The Tennessee Volunteers have impressed many this year with their 2-0 start, but now they step up a bit in competition. The Volunteers may have been looking ahead to this game as they did beat Arkansas State Last week, but really didn’t play a great game and they failed to cover the spread. The Offense put up 415 yards and they hit 9 of 18 on third downs, but they also had just 3.7 ypc on the ground.  Justin Worley has been solid for the Vols at QB this year, as he has completed 64.5% of his passes for 520 yards, with 5 TDs and just 1 INT so far. Overall the offense has not been great for this team, as they rank 85th in total offense (399 ypg) and 52nd in scoring (36 ppg), but on defense they have been solid, ranking 28th in total defense (287.5 ypg) and 21st in scoring defense (13 ppg).

The Oklahoma Sooners are doing just what has been expected of them this year as they come in off blowout wins of Louisiana Tech and Tulsa to start their year. Last week the Sooners were never really tested as they won the game 52-7, while outgaining them by 252 yards in the game. Oklahoma rolled up 580 yards in the game, including 261 on the ground and at 8.4 yards per pop. Trevor Knight had another nice game as he completed21 of 34 passes for 299 yards and 2 TDs and Sterling Sheppard was his favorite target in the game as he caught 8 passes for 177 yards and a TD.  Oklahoma ranks 30th in total offense (508 ypg) and 11th in scoring offense (50 ppg), while on defense they rank 27th in yards allowed (286.5 ypg) and 14th in points allowed (11.5 ppg).

Pick: I am going with the Sooners in this one. The Vols are an improved team, but remember they are still a young team and winning two games at home vs average FBS teams is a whole lot different that playing and competing in a game on the road vs a top 5 team. The Sooners will win this one rather easy as the young Vols will just run out of gas in the 2nd half.
