The Eastern Michigan Eagles are taking on the Old Dominion Monarchs in the Popeyes Bahamas Bowl on Friday afternoon. The game is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN. The college football odds for the game have the Monarchs favored by less than a touchdown in this one.

Many have been talking recently about there being too many bowl games. This is an example of one of the lesser-tier bowls that maybe a lot of people aren’t paying attention to. But what’s really neat is the accomplishments of both of these schools.
Eastern Michigan is playing in its first bowl game since 1987, where they beat San Jose State 30-27 in the California Bowl. Old Dominion has never made a bowl game, but they did just join the FBS in 2014, making this a pretty solid accomplishments. The Monarchs have played well when they are expected to win, like they are in this bowl game. Old Dominion won and covered all eight games when they were favored this season.
Old Dominion has won five straight games overall, which led to them earning nine victories this season. QB David Washington threw for 28 scores and only four interceptions this season as a senior.
Eastern Michigan has not had the same type of success from the quarterback position. Eagles QBs have combined to throw 23 touchdown passes on the season, but have also been picked off 16 times as well. The run game isn’t great either, but Ian Eriksen has been a stable back for them most of the season.
For what it’s worth, Old Dominion has won each of the last two meetings between the teams. Both teams should be fired up here and that should make for a nice game.
