The Purdue Boilermakers host the Central Michigan Chippewas in college football action Saturday. The game is scheduled for a noon start time and it will be televised live on ESPNews. Currently the odds for the game are tight, with Purdue favored to pick up a win at home.
Interesting line/game here. The Boilermakers won last week over Western Michigan and now are only favored by a field goal, at home, against Central Michigan. The Chippewas won their opening game of the season by beating Chattanooga 20-16 last Thursday. They got an extra day off, which could help them regroup and be ready to take on the Boilermakers in this one.
Purdue looked sluggish at times, but was able to stay even with Western Michigan in the second half to win their game last week. Danny Etling threw for two scores while the Purdue rush attack was pretty solid as well, but the Broncos actually out-gained the Boilers in total yards.
Purdue has won all five meetings with the Chips.
Central Michigan is just 3-14 in road openers dating back to 1997, which is something they want to improve. Only being a field goal underdog on the road in a Big Ten stadium could make this team dangerous in this one.
Purdue was terrible last season and prior to beating the Broncos last week, they had lost 12 straight against FBS teams. The Boilers are trying to build a successful program, like Central, and a win here for either team would certainly be a positive.
But Purdue might need the win more then Central. The Boilermakers do not have a favorable schedule, so getting wins when they can, even in the early part of the season, will be big for their team chemistry.
