Friday College Football Nebraska Cornhuskers vs Iowa Hawkeyes Free Pick

Friday college football and we will see the Nebraska Cornhuskers take on the Iowa Hawkeyes at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City, Iowa. The game has a start time of 12:00 pm (Eastern) and will be televised on ABC. Current Vegas odds have Iowa listed as 1 point favorites, while the total is set at 56.

Analysis:  The Nebraska Cornhuskers were at 8-1 at one points this year and had an outside shot at getting into the 4 team playoff at the end of the year, but they have since lost their last 2 games to fall to 8-3 overall and 4-3 in the Big 10. Nebraska is 6-1 ATS in their last 7 road games and 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a ATS loss, but also just 5-14 ATS in their last 19 Friday games. Nebraska has been a solid offensive squad, ranking 31st in total yards, 92nd in passing, 15th in rushing and 16th in scoring (37.5 ppg). On defense they have been decent, ranking 50th in total yards, 22nd vs the pass, 83rd vs the run and 43rd in points allowed (24 ppg).

The Iowa Hawkeyes come in off a tough 2 point home loss to the Wisconsin Badgers. The loss drops the Hawkeyes to 7-4 on the year after starting the season with a 5-1 record.  The Hawkeyes are 41-18-1 ATS in their last 60 games following a S.U. loss, 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games in November and 6-2 ATS in their last 8 conference games. Iowa is not a very strong offensive team, ranking 66th in total yards, 52nd in passing, 71st in rushing and 78th in scoring (27.7 ppg). The Hawkeyes have been a very good defensive team, ranking 21st in yards allowed, 8th vs the pass, 58th vs the run and 33rd in points allowed (22.8 ppg).

Pick: Gonna go with the Under in this one. The Hawkeyes play a rather slow brand of ball and are very conservative on offense, while the Huskers run the ball a ton and this Iowa defense just doesn’t give up too many big play. The Nebraska defense hasn’t been that this year, allowing just 24 ppg so far and should do enough to keep the Iowa offense in check here. 24-23 sounds like a good score.
