College Football Betting Odds Iowa Hawkeyes vs Maryland Terrapins Free Pick

Saturday college football and we will see the Iowa Hawkeyes take on the Maryland Terrapins at Byrd Stadium in College Park, Maryland. The game has a start time of 12:00 pm (Eastern) and will be televised on ESPN 2. Current Vegas odds have the Terrapins listed as 5 point favorites, while the total is set at 48.

Analysis:  The Iowa Hawkeyes come into this game with a 5-1 mark, which includes a perfect 2-0 mark on the road. Iowa has won 3 in a row both SU & ATS, including last week’s 45-29 shootout win over Indiana. The Hawkeyes are 1-6 ATS after scoring 35 or more vs a conference opponent, but they are also 8-0 ATS in their last 8 road games. QB Jake Rudock has had a nice year for the Hawkeyes so far, hitting 67.5% of his passes for 1008 yards with 7 TDs and 2 INTs, while Mark Weisman has 8 rushing TDs already, which is how many he has had in each of the last 2 years. The Hawkeyes have been a below average offensive team, ranking 92nd overall, 72nd in passing, 83rd in rushing and 89th in scoring (26.3 ppg), while the defense has been solid, with rankings of 26th overall, 24th vs the pass, 40th vs the run and 20th in points allowed (19.2 ppg).

Maryland comes in with a record of 4-2 overall, but they are just 1-2 at home with those losses vs Ohio State and West Virginia. They do come in with a week of rest after the 28 point home loss to the Buckeyes, but they have gone 0-7 ATS in their last 7 games with rest, plus they are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 October games. QB CJ Brown is the leader of the offense as he has thrown for 1067 yards with 7 TDs, while also leading the team in rushing with 263 yards and 5 TDs. He is listed as questionable for this game, which would leave a big void in their offense. If he can’t go it will be Caleb Rowe, who has thrown for 489 yards and 5 TDs, but just isn’t the same dual threat that CJ Brown is. For the year the Terrapins are 78th in total offense, 49th in passing, 97th in rushing and 39th in scoring (34.7 ppg), while the defense has struggled, ranking 101st in yards allowed, 71st vs the pass, 107th vs the run and 65th in points allowed (25.2 ppg).

Pick: I will be looking at the Over in this game. Last week Iowa showed that they can score vs a weak defense and Maryland has not been all that good on the defensive side of the ball, allowing 25.2 ppg, including allowing 46 ppg in their last 2 home games, which were vs West Virginia and Ohio State. The Iowa defense has been tough this year, but they will be taking on a Maryland team that has scored 34.7 ppg overall, including 37.7 ppg at home. This one should hit the 50’s.
