Alabama -17
Total:?47 points
Alabama is once again the class of the county, but they need one more win here over Auburn in order to lock up a playoff spot. A loss here would could spoil some egos around Tuscaloosa but the Crimson?Tide are already locked into the SEC?title game, taking on Florida next week. Even if they somehow lost this game to the Tigers, winning an SEC?title next week would be tough for the college football playoff committee to ignore.
So Alabama’s locked in. But in these types of games anything can happen, which we have seen in year’s past. Both teams play excellent defense and that should be an important factor in this year’s Iron?Bowl. Alabama is holding opponents to just over 11 points per game, Auburn is allowing just over 14 points per game, both obviously rank inside the Top 10 nationally.
Auburn might have had a better shot in this one had Kamryn Pettway been healthy. As a fullback he’s piled up better than 1,100 yards on the ground this season and he’s a great addition to Kerryon Johnson’s five yards per carry as well.
Alabama freshman Jalen Hurts has been exceptional all season. He’s been able to limit mistakes and lead the offense down the field repeatedly against some strong competition. When Hurts is playing well the Crimson Tide are nearly impossible to beat.
But Auburn is playing great football as well. The Tigers have won seven of eight overall and the defense has been a big part of that.
