The Alabama Crimson?Tide are playing the Washington?Huskies in the first matchup of the College Football Playoffs on Saturday in the Chik-Fil-A Peach Bowl. The game is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on?ESPN. After a month of talking about how Washington can’t beat Alabama in this game, the first semifinal matchup kicks off Saturday and the Huskies are looking for the upset. Washington won 12 games this season and really kicked it up a notch the final three contests of the year, beating up on Arizona State, Washington State and eventually Colorado in the Pac 12 title game.
Washington isn’t going to be intimidated in this game. Jake Browning is going to be the best quarterback the Crimson Tide have seen all season — he threw for 42 touchdowns and almost 3,300 yards through the air and has several guys that can make plays on the outside. Washington has an excellent young tailback in Myles Gaskin as well, he rushed for better than 1,300 yards and scored 10 times. Lavon?Coleman is also a solid back for the Huskies, averaging 7.8 yards per carry.
Alabama’s defense is stout, fast and probably the best in the country. They don’t beat themselves and held 10 opponents this season to 14 points or less. Washington basically has no shot to win if they are only around the 14-point mark here, so they will have to exceed expectations.
Jalen Hurts will lead the Crimson?Tide offense once again. He’s a freshman, but after 13 games in the fire he should once again be ready. Hurts is the team leader in all-purpose yards and his 12 rushing touchdowns makes him a big threat. The read option is perfect for Hurts with his ability to beat people with his feet, but he also has some big-play threats with ArDarius Stewart, Calvin?Ridley and O.J. Howard.
Alabama is obviously the class of the country, but Washington is going to put a scare into them.
