College Basketball West Virginia Mountaineers vs Kansas Jayhawks Start Time, Odds, Pick

The No. 8 Kansas Jayhawks welcome in the West Virginia Mountaineers today in Big 12 college basketball action. The game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN. Currently the odds for the game have Kansas favored at home favored by double digits in this one at home.

Kansas has been up and down a bit this season, but a game against West Virginia at home today should help keep their confidence up. The Mountaineers are not having the type of season they wanted and playing the Jayhawks in Lawrence isn't a good recipe for earning a victory on the road. In fact, West Virginia is 3-4 in road games so far this season. But, Bob Huggins' squad has won three consecutive games overall.

The Jayhawks have the mega-freshmen on the squad, which is something very few schools get. Bill Self seems to have no problems snagging up the one-and-done players and this year's bunch is beginning to play better as a unit. Andrew Wiggins is regarded as arguably the best overall freshman in the country, but Joel Embiid has really made a mark on the college basketball landscape this season. The Jayhawks will certainly look for big games from both of them in this contest at home.

The Mountaineers just knocked off Oklahoma in their last game. They've won four of their last five games overall and Juwan Staten is one of the best overall scorers in the conference. Terry Henderson and Eron Harris have both been playing well for West Virginia as well, giving the Mountaineers some hope coming into this matchup. West Virginia just gives up too many points to be an elite team in the Big 12 this season.

The difference between Kansas and West Virginia in points allowed per game isn't a large number, but the Jayhawks have the offensive skill players to make up for some average defense at times. West Virginia is also playing a tough schedule, as all of the Big 12 teams encounter. But the Mountaineers had dropped their last16 overall games against ranked opponents before beating the Sooners in their last game.

Yet, Self teams don't often lose in conference games at home. Kansas is 50-1 and has won by an average of 20.9 points in its last 51 home games against Big 12 teams that aren't ranked.

Kansas just has too much firepower in this game. West Virginia doesn't have what it takes to go into Phog Allen Fieldhouse and pull off the win. The oddsmakers believe this to be the case as well, giving Kasnas a 14-point advantage based on the odds for this one.
