The Michigan Wolverines are playing host to the Virginia Tech Hokies in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge in college basketball action on Wednesday. The game is scheduled for a 7:15 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN. The college basketball odds for the game have the Wolverines favored to pick up the victory at home.
College Basketball Odds
Michigan and Virginia Tech are a pair of promising teams that have gotten off to decent starts this season. They’ve each lost only once on the season and Michigan’s defeat at South Carolina was certainly a bad one.
The Wolverines shot just 2-of-26 from downtown in that loss to the Gamecocks and scored just 46 points. John Beilein teams rely heavily on the perimeter shot and when they aren’t falling, Michigan can struggle. Playing at home inside Crisler Center should help alleviate some of those shooting woes; Michigan beat Mount St. Mary’s in the next game and converted on 44 percent of its shots, though still struggled in hitting just 11-of-27 triples.
Virginia Tech is coming off a double-digit win over Nebraska and their lone loss on the season came against Texas A&M as the Aggies scored 43 second-half points. This will be the Hokies’ first true road game on the season and certainly a test to see whether they can be a potential tournament team this year under Buzz Williams.
Michigan is senior-led by guards Zak Irvin and Derrick Walton Jr., a duo that averages better than 26 points, eight rebounds and seven assists per game. Michigan is only as good as their guards, but they also need to get some good contributions from the big men in the post.
