Tuesday night in CBB we will see the Iowa State Cyclones travel to Stillwater, Oklahoma to take on the Oklahoma State Cowboys as a part of ESPN's Super Tuesday. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 pm tipoff and will be televised live on ESPN2. Currently Oklahoma State is favored by 1.5 points with the total being set at 140 for this game. Just three days after picking up an impressive road victory at Oklahoma, Iowa State will attempt to make it two straight in the “Sooner State” on a trip to Oklahoma State.
Free Analysis: Iowa State has been flying under the radar in the competitive Big 12 and is just one game behind the nationally-ranked trio of Kansas, Missouri and Baylor for first place in the conference. The Cyclones have won three straight and five of their last six games overall, including a 77-70 decision at Oklahoma on Saturday. The Current 3 game run has also included wins over Kansas and Kansas State. The Cyclones have gone 3-4 in their true road games overall, but 3-2 in their conference road games. Iowa State's offense has been impressive this season, ranking fourth in the Big 12 in both scoring (74.3 ppg) and field goal percentage (.453), and the team has hit the most three-pointers (204) with the second-best long-range FG efficiency (.385). Royce White has been one of the league's best all-around performers this season, netting 13.5 ppg while ranking second in the Big 12 in rebounding (9.3 rpg), fourth in field goal percentage (.542) and sixth in assists (4.6 apg). White is also a factor at the defensive end, pitching in with 1.2 steals and 1.2 blocks per tilt. Guards Chris Allen (11.8 ppg), Christopherson (11 ppg), Chris Babb (9.2 ppg) and Tyrus McGee (9.0 ppg) provide support from the outside, combining for 7.7 three-pointers per game.Despite allowing 70 points in each of their last 2 games the Cyclones have been playing good defense this year as they have allowed 66.8 ppg overall, including just 63.6 ppg in their last 5. The Cyclones have defended the three ball very well, ranking 38th in that category (30.4%). As for Oklahoma State, it has not found much success recently, having failed to win back-to-back games since the beginning of December and the team finds itself in the bottom half of the conference standings with a 4-6 record. The Cowboys have lost five of their last seven, and though they dropped their latest bout to Baylor, although they played the Bears tight before falling in a 64-60 final. Oklahoma State's effort at the offensive end (66.7 ppg) has been below average by Big 12 standards, as it is one of only three teams to score fewer than 70 ppg. Though the Cowboys shot just 40 percent in the recent loss to Baylor, they put forth one of their best defensive efforts of the year, holding the high-powered Bears to 40.7 percent field goal efficiency. Freshman Brian Williams scored a career-high 23 points in the setback, and though he averages just 7.9 ppg on the year, he is netting 16.2 points over the last four games. Keiton Page (14.3 ppg) and Le'Bryan Nash (13.2 ppg) both rank in the top-15 in the conference in scoring, but neither has been very efficient as both shoot less than 40 percent from the floor. Markel Brown adds 9.9 ppg and 5.3 rpg to the mix. Oklahoma State doesn't move the ball all that effectively, ranking last in the Big 12 in assists (10.7 apg) and next-to-last in assist-to- turnover ratio (0.83). The Cowboys can't score, but they have been solid defensively as they have allowed just 66.3 ppg on 40.6% shooting overall and 30% shooting from long range. Oklahoma State had won four straight in the series before Iowa State won the first meeting of this season, 71-68, on January 18 on a three-pointer in the final seconds by Scott Christopherson. The Cowboys still hold the edge in the all-time series, 61-53.
Free Pick: Really was looking to stay away from the side in this one as I see a lot of people are on the Cyclones, but in looking over the game more and more I feel they are the right side. ISU has been rolling of late, while OSU has been struggling, but don't expect ISU to take the Cowboys lightly here, especially since they recently beat Missouri on this floor. Other than that Missouri win, the Cowboys have only beaten Texas Tech in their last 6 league games. After the way they have been playing the Cyclones are still on the outside of the Top 25 and that may make them a bit angry here because of that I don't expect a flat spot for them after wins over Oklahoma, Kansas and KSU. It may be tough for the Cowboys to get up for this one after coming so close to getting revenge vs a Baylor squad that beat them by 41 in the first meeting. Though Oklahoma State has been fairly impressive at home this season, the Cyclones have been playing much better than the Pokes lately and the home court advantage won't be enough to shift things the Cowboys' way.
