The Ohio State Buckeyes are hosting the Minnesota Golden Gophers on Wednesday in college basketball action. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised live on the Big Ten Network. The college basketball odds for the game have the Buckeyes favored to pick up the win at home.

On the surface, it might come as some surprise that Minnesota has the highest RPI of any team in the Big Ten at 16. The Gophers have played one of the toughest schedules in the country (seventh) and have come out of it with only five losses to date. Two losses to Michigan State have hampered their start to the conference season and put them at 3-4 and tied for seventh in the league.

Ohio State is in the cellar of the conference at 2-5, Thad Matta’s team has lacked the ability to win close games, recently they’ve dropped five of the last seven games overall. A key win over Minnesota would go a long way into keeping the confidence stable for the Buckeyes.

But Minnesota needs a win just as much, if not more, than Ohio State. The Gophers are going to make the NCAA Tournament unless they completely implode, but they have to stop the losing as each of the last three games have come been defeats. The two losses to Penn State and Wisconsin came by a single bucket and how things could be different if Minnesota had won each of those games.

Ironically the Golden Gophers aren’t ranked, but they probably should be. A handful of bad losses (MSU, Penn State) are keeping them out, but expect them back in the rankings soon as they continue to pile up wins.
