Michigan’s dream post season continues here today when they play the Wisconsin Badgers in the Big Ten Tournament finals. Michigan has already marched to the finals with key wins over Illinois, Purdue and Minnesota, now a victory over Wisconsin would put the Wolverines in five to six seed territory for the NCAA Tournament.
The Wolverines have done an amazing job climbing the seed line this conference tournament. Heading in, they were on the 8-9 line and potentially a 10 seed had they lost to Illinois, but now they play for a conference tournament title and there’s no doubt the selection committee will like them even more if they win.
Wisconsin looked good Saturday in a win over Northwestern. This marks the third time the Badgers have reached the tournament finals in five seasons and obviously they want to feed Ethan Happ and get solid perimeter scoring from Bronson Koenig.
Michigan’s Derrick Walton Jr. is playing like the best player in the country right now. He’s banging home threes, leading Michigan out in transition and really helping the team buckle down on defense. Michigan’s defense, in fact, has been a major difference in their success the past month.
Michigan is white hot right now, winners of six of the last seven games and nine of the team’s last 11 games. Both teams won on their own courts in the regular season in this matchup, both of those games ended up being single-digit finals.
The Wolverines are a perfect 5-0 in neutral court games this season and it’s tough to go against them here.
