The No. 7 Kanas Jayhawks hit the road tonight in Big 12 college basketball action against the Kansas State Wildcats. The game is scheduled for a 9 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN. Currently the odds for the game have Kansas favored on the road by less than two possessions.
The rivalry week in college basketball begins tonight as Kansas and Kansas State take to the courts. Several rivalry games will take place throughout the week and it all tips off tonight with the Jayhawks and the Wildcats. Bill Self will need to have his team avoid the recent trend of Top 10 teams that have fallen on the road.
Both freshmen superstars Andrew Wiggins and Joel Embiid have been bigtime players for the Jayhawks now. But Kansas is more than just two players. The Jayhawks are only 4-3 on the road this season, which certainly can be improved. Wiggins is averaging 16 points per game to lead this Kansas team while Embiid is averaging 10.9 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game.
The Jayhawks are coming off a win over West Virginia while Kansas State is coming off a major win over Texas on Saturday. In the previous game between these two programs the Jayhawks picked up an 86-80 win at home. They're only favored by a couple of points here on the road. Kansas State has lost just once all season at home and their freshman, Marcus Foster, leads the team in scoring at better than 14 points per game.
In the team's win over No. 15 Texas on Saturday Foster went 5 of 8 from downtown and made all eight of his shots from 2-point range. Kansas State improved to 29-2 at home under Bruce Weber with the victory. The Wildcats only loss at home this season came at the hands of Northern Colorado, in Kansas State's opening game of the season. Since then they've rolled off 12 straight games at home. In the previous game against Kansas, however, Foster had just seven points. Wiggins led Kansas with 22, Embiid had 11 and nine rebounds and fellow freshman Wayne Selden Jr. scored 20 for the Jayhawks.
The Jayhawks have won six straight between the teams, 48 of the last 51 and lead the complete rivalry 187-91 all-time.
