College Basketball Odds
Iowa State -5.5
Total: 158.5 points
Iowa and Iowa State play annually in the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series, this year’s event is beind held inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City. Those Hawkeyes are just 4-5 on the season and have won only four of the six games inside the arena this year, where they have not played very good on the defensive end.
Opponents have scored better than 80 points on average against the Hawkeyes in Iowa, including 74 by Kennesaw State, 84 by Savannah State, 91 by Seton Hall and 98 to Omaha. That’s just not good enough to be consistent in Division 1 hoops if they have any chance of making the NCAA Tournament.
Iowa State held Omaha to 51 points fewer than the Hawkeyes did. While that won’t matter when this game tips off, it’s certainly worth noting.
The Cyclones have played much better on the defensive end of the floor in comparison to Iowa, but they will need to show up big once again here. Their two losses have come by a combined three points to a couple of solid teams in Gonzaga and Cincinnati, which means they will come into this one tested and looking to pick up the win.
It’s a rivalry game and it’s Iowa State’s first true road game on the season. Strange things can happen in rivalry games and with Iowa playing at home here, the Hawkeyes should be able t0 get up for this one.
